“Chanel” Spring Summer 2013 Paris Full Show by FashionChannel
The vast Grand Palais spaces barely accommodate Karl Lagerfeld’s visionary power who, for this collection, has created an enchanted forest of wind turbines rising from a catwalk lined with solar panels. The minimalist design of the eco-technological theme combined with the concept of free and clean energy mirrors the underlying pillar of the collection: graphic and pure lines keeping embellishments to a minimum whilst bringing the classic Chanel style in line with contemporary trends of chic and sophisticated minimalism. And yet this doesn’t deter Karl from injecting the collection with a hint of humour and witty references: the pearls of the iconic sautoir become metal boules and are scattered on the garments while the chain of the legendary quilted bag becomes a big hula-hoo. Alexa Chung Models Chanel Hula Hoop Bag

ALEXA CHUNG has received her very own bespoke Chanel hula hoop bag – arguably the star of the label’s latest show. The Vogue cover girl was given the statement style, with personalised initials, by US television presenter Anderson Cooper on his show earlier this week.

“You really shouldn’t have, no I mean really you shouldn’t have,” Chung laughed upon being presented with the accessory. “It’s amazing, I was reading about this and I think Karl Lagerfeld called it ‘a very practical piece’. It seems like a buoyancy aid too, you could really pad it out.”

The Chanel helmer has previously explained that the item is targeted at beach-goers.

“You need space for the beach towel,” he told the Telegraph. “And then you can put it into the sand and hang things on it.”
